ROBERT ADAMS /// SUMMER NIGHTS, WALKING         de | en
SUMMER NIGHTS WALKING is the revised and extended edition of Adams’ original book SUMMER NIGHTS of 1985. Carefully re-designed and very well printed it contains 39 images which have not been published so far. These images emerged in the 70s in Longmont, Colorado, near the eastern Rocky Mountains. From the beginning of dusk until deep darkness, Adams sets out into the night, on his way through the suburbs.

Only the moon and the streetlights illuminate the deserted streets. A certain silence spreads and it can be felt in the images. It radiates peace and security, but at the same time it reminds us of the unknown in the darkness. Beauty is as perceptible as the possible danger. Both are fascinating and the game of light, shadows and silhouettes displays the aesthetic subtleties of the nocturnal sceneries. Everyday occurrences, like cars, houses, streets, plants and fields, suddenly host something new.

Adams, as a photographer, introduces these visual fields, but then he skillfully withdraws and leaves us, the observer, with our own discoveries, which we make in the silence, during this nightly walk. These impressive images have a special effect, a wonderful mixture of wonder and anxiety.
