What can I say? Paul Graham has made outstanding books, including ›White Nights‹ and ›A Shimmer Of Possibility‹, the first two parts of his America trilogy, which is now finalized with ›The Present‹.
›The Present‹ is Street Photography, literally, the pictures come directly from the streets of New York. But Graham is not interested in the ›decisive moment‹, instead he always presents two versions of a situation.
The photographs are separated only by a brief fraction of time, but the rapid change of occuring characters and urban props shifts the image statement and perception and allows new interpretations. A rewarding challenge, but it takes time.
To get access to the book, you need to take your time anyway. Numerius foldout pages to the left and to the right make it impossible to browse like usual.
Very specific, however strong.
